Writer and photographer Roger Catchpole captured this image of two male Hungarian partridge on a fence post near Livingston, Montana, this past fall while hunting with Covey Rise columnist Ben O. Williams. “The photo was taken in late October, to be precise. We were hunting Huns and sharptails on CRP grasslands. Ben and I were hunting over a mixture of Brittanys and English pointers. The birds were all wild and we covered a lot of ground between each covey. We harvested just a handful of birds and walked many miles in the process, which is how Ben and I both enjoy the sport best,” says Roger, who recently moved from Florida to the Boston area. “This was without doubt a low-volume and high-effort hunt. However, the scenery was spectacular and the memories indelible.” |
