About the Position
Covey Rise Magazine is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Junior Designer to join our team. The primary focus of this position will be the design, layout, and production of our print magazine, working closely with our editorial and production teams to bring each issue to life.
Beyond the magazine, the Junior Designer will also contribute to a variety of creative projects across our digital platforms, marketing initiatives, and other areas of the brand. We're looking for someone with a strong eye for design, an appreciation for visual storytelling, and the ability to balance creativity with the organization and attention to detail required in a deadline-driven publishing environment.
Editorial Design & Magazine Production
- Design and lay out editorial features, columns, and other magazine content.
- Work closely with editors and the production team to incorporate copy, photography, and other visual elements into layouts.
- Maintain consistency in typography, formatting, and overall visual presentation throughout each issue.
- Prepare and organize design files for print production, ensuring accuracy and adherence to printer specifications.
- Assist with proofing, revisions, and final production to ensure each issue meets Covey Rise's editorial and design standards.
- Manage multiple layouts and projects while meeting publication deadlines.
- Prepare and distribute digital assets to contributors and featured people and brands.
Additional Creative Work
- Design graphics and visual assets for the Covey Rise website, social media, and email marketing.
- Create promotional materials for magazine subscriptions, product launches, events, and other marketing initiatives.
- Assist with image editing, retouching, and preparation for print and digital use.
- Collaborate with team members on creative concepts and other design projects as needed.
- Help maintain a consistent visual identity across all Covey Rise platforms.
Required
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Strong understanding of typography, editorial layout, composition, and fundamental design principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- A portfolio demonstrating design abilities and creative thinking.
Preferred
- Degree in graphic design or a related field.
- Experience with editorial design, magazine layout, or print production.
- Familiarity with preparing files for commercial printing.
- Experience creating graphics for digital platforms.
- An interest in publishing, photography, and visual storytelling.
