A cocker moves purposefully through the grass, carrying a red grouse gently in its mouth. Terry Allen captures the dog mid-stride, its attentive expression and forward movement reflecting the instinct and training of a capable sporting companion. The bird's richly patterned plumage contrasts with the spaniel's dark coat, while the soft greens and golds of the surrounding grass lend warmth to the composition. A celebration of the working gundog, this photograph honors the partnership between hunter and dog and the satisfaction of a retrieve well executed.
