Sometimes the far corners of the Earth seem well out of reach. The idea of filling a map with little red pins is exciting though, and we are reminded that there is a whole world of opportunities out there.

In this issue of Covey Rise, our search for stories takes us to places we’ve never been before. We venture to Bettws Hall in Wales and experience the most incredible driven shoot built and curated by an incredible family with a very well established, vertically integrated business originally founded on traditional agriculture. Then we meet Chris Dorsey, who has traveled and hunted in almost every corner of the world. He’s been places most people will never go, but he shares stories that bring those places to heart and hearth, and stories are perhaps the most vibrant part of the upland lifestyle—at least the way he tells them.

Across the pond, we take a visit to James Purdey & Sons to commemorate 75 years of the Purdey-Woodward. And while we’re in the neighborhood, we meet the Gladwin family—a lively crew with five London-based restaurants that celebrate the English countryside. Then we take a look at Really Wild, a British clothing brand born from a passion for blending country heritage with modern style. Back in the States, Reid Bryant tags along with a team to avian biologists in Montana to examine the effects of lead ingestion in birds as a lethal by-product of hunter activity. He shares ways we can prevent being a part of the problem and the importance of spreading awareness and education for topics such as this. After all, we all want to preserve the land and its creatures that we enjoy so much.

For many of us, a sense of adventure is at the core of the upland lifestyle, whether you’re chasing dogs across fields in the next county or loading up the trucks and dog boxes and headed across the country or even across the big pond. We all have maps in our heads if not on our walls, though sometimes we get drawn into the notions, comforts, and limitations of our own little corner of the world. If possible, live into the adventure. Stretch your hand and mind toward the edge of your map and drop a pin. It’s a big world out there, and we invite you to come along with us and explore it.
